Berlin – finally exploring home and finding a friend

I told you in my first post that I love traveling. All started once I left home for Holland to study. Since then I have been to 10 countries and I loved it and I just couldn’t stop traveling. Little side note: Elite Daily claims that our urge to travel apparently can be traced back to our DNA.
The gene responsible for this is DRD4-7R. This gene has a “strong correlation  with increased levels of curiosity and restlessness” according to Elite Daily. Carriers of this gene generally embrace movement, change and adventure. So do I and you might as well.
However, when I first moved to Berlin I always thought to myself “you still have enough time to explore this exciting city”. Unfortunately, back then I didn’t know how much of a hard worker I am. I started an internship at an event agency and I worked a lot. Next to working, I had to finish assignments and reports for Uni. It was basically a double burden. After my internship, I quit working so I could focus on my bachelor thesis and after I finished my bachelor thesis, I left for a trip through South East Asia and New Zealand. So, there was little up to no time to properly explore the city. Shame on me. I know a lot of people love Berlin and today for quite the first time I realized I love the city too. Without the city I wouldn’t have learned so much work-wise and more important I wouldn’t have met my partner in crime.
Anyway, I have been meaning to tell you that my boyfriend and me are leaving for Canada. We are up for a new challenge in our lives and I am happy to have the chance to do this trip not by myself, but with a wonderful person right next to me. But I will definitely keep you updated about our plans.
Because we are leaving we are trying to soak in the last bits and pieces of Berlin. This is why we decided to do a city walking tour with a guide. We didn’t really wanted to do a classic 3rd Reich Tour or something like that. We wanted something different. Therefore, we decided for the alternative city tour by Sandemann. Here the link. The guide was awesome, a funny guy with a great dry sense of humor. The tour covers mostly non-mainstream sights and street art and takes about 3 hours. It sounds much, but time was flying and you get a lunch break as well. The tour starts everyday at 02:00 pm and costs you 12 EUR regularly or 10 EUR for students. The starting point is at Starbucks at Pariser Platz close to Brandenburger Tor.

Here comes a funny side note

img-20150308-wa0001Our group had to wait because of one girl. She was late. Once she came back she had a huge cone of ice cream in her right hand, the reason why she was late in the first place. But it doesn’t matter. I saw her face and thought to myself, “Damn, that girl looks so familiar. I kept on starring at her because I just couldn’t figure out where I knew her from. She noticed I was starring at her and for the first second I thought she now thinks I am a weirdo or find her sexual attractive or something like that. You maybe know the awkward feeling when you get busted while starring at someone by accident or on purpose – both are awkward situations.
In the next second however, I had the feeling she was starring back thinking the same. So here we were, both staring at each other, not knowing why we are doing that. As soon as the group started to walk, we both approached each other at the same time and asked “We know each other, right?” Turns out she is the girl I shared a 24 bedroom with in Krabi, Thailand in August 2014. We only had one evening together because she left the next day. We ended up having a really great talk with each other. I never saw her again until today. I mean what are the freaking odds? We met in Thailand and bumped into each other in Berlin??? Seriously, are you kidding me? If she would have been a guy, I probably would have thought, “This must be destiny, I need to marry this guy” or something like that. That’s us on the picture (me on the left).I mean really? It was so weird and so beautiful at the same time. I was really happy to meet her again. Crazy. I guess life is trying to say the world is a village and keep yourself on the constant pursuit to trigger your senses and stimulate yourself by doing a walking tour (yes, this might be definitely it) and you will be rewarded with a unique experience of finding old friends 😉

So long…much love,

Eireeen

Been to Berlin like a year ago… There’s also a pretty cool “alternative free walking tour” through Kreuzberg …. Relies on tipps for the guys, depending if you like it or not… Loved it!

Have you ever been to a Bunker-Tour? Doesn’t mean it is all about 2nd WW, but about East and West Berlin. Very interesting! Before you leave, you should see the Underworld.

We will also leave Berlin in fall and started to explore home.
