Need is the mother of inventions

Today I would like to share something with you from my personal toolbox. I am a little bit of a creative artist myself (NOT). But the need is the mother of invention! So, last year around this time my boyfriend’s birthday was up. A time where most people in a relationship tend to run in circles panicky and repeat the sentence: Think, think! What to get? What to get?

To be honest with you, I am more the – hand-made-with-love-present – kind of person. I love presents that are more thought through. And lately, especially in times of digitisation, fast changing life, people love something to literally hold on to or to touch with their senses. So, my idea was making something great. Building something with love.

Anyway, for this special something you need:

1x piece of wood
1x 1.646.554.678.979 Nails (Just kidding, but seriously you are better off buying the big package)
1x hammer
1x paint (in the colour you like)
1x ball of strings (in a good matching colour to the paint, or not, it is up to you)
1x most important: patience and energy

Step 1:
Paint the wood and give it time to dry completely.

Step 2:
Print out the motive (could be a heart, a word – like in my case – or a hipster triangle whatever you like). This will serve you as a template for hammering the nails. Cut it out.

Step 3:
Hammer the shit out of the nails! My arms were numb after I finished all 200 (?) of them. So, you place the template and maybe fix it with tape. Then slowly hammer one nail after another along the template on the sideline. You have to consider that all nails have to stick out around 1 to 1,5cm for rolling the thread around them.

Step 4:
When you finished doing that. Get a drink – you deserve it! Then, slowly hammer the nails randomly outside the template (word, object, whatever you have chosen). See it as a weird framework.

Step 5:
Knot a thread on one of the outside threads and roll them around the next nail close to it, go back and forth random or with a system. And TADAAA! You are done.

Tip:
Go to the hardware store, go to the left over section for wood supply. If you are lucky you will find some good ass pieces there for a very fair pricing (I was really amazed how much wood costs, plain wood people…anyway).

Time: 10 hours

Here is my end result, quite cool isn’t it?

Haha! Yeah true that! It is even easier to do when just using a heart as a shape! And it looks just a s cool! Good luck with it! 🙂
